In a thriller the Detroit Tigers staged a dramatic comeback over the Boston
Red Sox winning by a score of 8 to 7 at Tiger Stadium.

Detroit erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning when they scored
4 runs on 4 hits. Detroit managed 10 in their victory.

The win was credited to Joe Grzenda(1-0) who went 1/3 of an inning allowing 1
run. The losing pitcher was Chet Nichols(0-1) in relief.


BALTIMORE AT WASHINGTON

Left fielder Matty Keough collected 2 extra-base hits and had 2 RBI and Joe
McClain allowed Mickey Vernon to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at
Griffith Stadium where the Washington Senators beat the Baltimore Orioles 4
to 2.

Baltimore was unable to recover after Washington went ahead in the 5th inning
scoring a single run using 2 hits. Washington had a total of 8 hits for the
game.

McClain(1-2) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Dick Hall(2-2)
took the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 8 hits in 6 innings.

Early Wynn pitched a complete game and Luis Aparicio connected with a 'big
fly' and had 3 RBI as the blistering-hot Chicago White Sox topped the Kansas
City Athletics by a score of 8 to 3 at Municipal Stadium.

Wynn(1-1) had a solid outing for Chicago. He went 9 innings surrendering 9
hits and no walks. Chicago had 10 hits for the night.

Bud Daley(0-2) was hit with the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering
5 runs in 4 innings. Chicago won for the 8th straight time. Joe Gordon was
very irritated after the contest. 'Just our luck to run into a team that's
playing like a juggernaut right now. I have to congratulate Al Lopez on his
team's recent performance. A very impressive run.'

Bill Skowron went yard and had 3 RBI at Yankee Stadium as the New York Yankees
won in their last at-bat beating the Cleveland Indians by the count of 5 to
2.

New York had the game winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs using 2
hits. Tony Kubek led off and started the rally when he tripled. After an
out was recorded, Mickey Mantle came up and he was walked intentionally.
Skowron then belted a three-run homer (his 3rd of the season) making New York
the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Overall New York
out-hit Cleveland 14 to 10.

The winning pitcher was Luis Arroyo(2-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Frank Funk(0-2) absorbed the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning and
surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk.

First baseman Ted Kluszewski hit 2 doubles and had 3 RBI at Wrigley Field as
the Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 12 to 4.

Minnesota fell behind quickly as the Los Angeles offense came through in the
first inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits. Albie Pearson opened up the inning
nicely when he laced a one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Kluszewski
came up and he lashed a single. Bob Cerv then drew a walk to load the bases.
Camilio Pascual then was wild with a pitch which scored a run. Steve Bilko
stepped into the box and would ground out scoring the final run of the
inning. Los Angeles managed 13 in their victory.

The victory went to Eli Grba(3-0) who went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs.
Pascual(2-1) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 5 runs and 4 hits in 1
and 2/3 innings.
