Jim Gentile hit one over the fence and had 4 RBI and Milt Pappas completed the
game without help from the bullpen as the Baltimore Orioles clobbered the
outmatched Washington Senators, 19 to 2.

Gentile was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day
at their team's expense. He doubled in the 5th inning, doubled in the 7th
inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 5th of the season) in the 8th
inning. Baltimore kept the scorekeepers busy in the 5th inning when they had
6 runs on 6 hits and the 8th inning which saw them plate 7 runs on 5 hits.
The Baltimore offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

Pappas(2-0), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Ed
Hobaugh(0-2) suffered the loss. He was unable to control the Baltimore
offense and allowed 12 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.

Catcher Dick Brown hit 2 doubles and Frank Lary shutout Boston while allowing
the Detroit bullpen a day-off as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Boston Red
Sox 4 to 0 at Tiger Stadium.

Lary(3-1) was very good in the win. He allowed just 7 hits and 3 walks in 9
innings seeing his ERA drop from 1.08 to 0.79. Detroit had just 5 hits for
the afternoon.

Tom Brewer(0-1) absorbed the loss. He pitched 6 innings giving up 5 hits and
5 walks.

Jerry Walker completed the game without help from the bullpen and Andy Carey
jacked one out of the ballyard at Municipal Stadium as the Kansas City
Athletics beat the Chicago White Sox 6 to 3.

Kansas City took the lead off Billy Pierce in the first inning scoring a
single run. Kansas City finished with 10 hits in the victory.

The win went to Walker(2-1) who allowed 3 runs in the game. Pierce(1-1) was
the loser. He gave up 4 runs in 2 innings of work.

Ralph Terry tossed a shutout and Tony Kubek had 5 hits and 2 RBI at Yankee
Stadium as the New York Yankees embarrassed the Cleveland Indians by the
lopsided score of 10 to 0.

Terry(1-1) put on a good performance. He surrendered only 8 hits and 1 walk
in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 7.71 to 3.38. New York had a total of
17 hits for the game.

Jim Perry(0-2) was the losing pitcher. He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 8 hits and 3 walks in 3 innings.

At Wrigley Field the Minnesota Twins outscored the Los Angeles Angels 10 to
7.

The game started off with Minnesota taking the lead in the first as they
scored 4 runs on 2 base hits. The key at-bat was by Reno Bertoia who
deflated the crowd as he doubled plating three runs. Despite scoring in 5
separate innings, Los Angeles could not get the win.

The win went to Ray Moore(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Ken
McBride(0-2) was the loser. He was hit hard and gave up 5 hits and 3 walks
in 2 innings.
