In a close game it was the Baltimore Orioles 4, the Detroit Tigers 2 at Tiger
Stadium.

Baltimore scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 8th inning with 3 runs
utilizing 4 base hits. Jerry Adair led off and he ripped a base-knock. Russ
Snyder followed and he doubled. Dave Philley then doubled scoring two
teammates. Dick Williams came up and he slapped a base-hit scoring the final
run of the inning. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the
6th inning.

Steve Barber(2-2) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Hoyt Wilhelm
got the save, his 2nd. The losing pitcher was Phil Regan(0-1) in relief. He
was not very effective, surrendering 3 runs in 2 innings.

Paul Foytack pitched a complete game as the Detroit Tigers defeated the
Baltimore Orioles by a score of 6 to 3 at Tiger Stadium.

Detroit scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning when they had 4 base
hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Charley Maxwell who made the
Detroit fans a happy lot when he tripled clearing the bases. Detroit rapped
out 10 hits for the afternoon.

The victory went to Foytack(1-0) who went the distance allowing 3 runs. Hal
Brown(1-1) was hit with the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 2/3
innings.

Willie Kirkland smacked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Gary Bell pitched a
complete game at Municipal Stadium where the Cleveland Indians beat the
Boston Red Sox 6 to 2.

Kirkland had a big day at the plate. He blasted a two-run home run in the 4th
inning, slapped a single in the 5th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'
(his 2nd of the season) in the 7th inning. Cleveland finished with 11 hits
in the victory.

The victory went to Bell(2-1) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Bill
Monbouquette(1-2) was given the loss. Cleveland now has a record of 9-6.
With the loss, the Boston ballclub's record is 6-7.

Mike Fornieles went 3 strong innings at Municipal Stadium as the Boston Red
Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 6 to 2.

In the top of the 3rd inning Boston went on top for good plating an isolated
run. Boston rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon.

Fornieles(2-0) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. The loss was
charged to Wynn Hawkins(1-1). He was unable to control the Boston offense
and allowed 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.

The Boston ballclub's record now stands at 7-7. With this loss, Cleveland has
a 6-4 record of late, 9-7 overall.

The Chicago White Sox toppled the Minnesota Twins by a 9 to 5 score at
Metropolitan Stadium.

Chicago came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 4
runners on 3 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Sammy Esposito
who quieted the home crowd when he lofted a three-run bomb (his 1st of the
season). Chicago ended up with 17 hits for the game while Minnesota had 9.

The victory was credited to Turk Lown(2-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Jack Kralick(0-3) ended up with the loss. He surrendered 6 runs and 15
hits in 8 innings.

Ron Moeller was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game as the Los Angeles Angels topped the Kansas City Athletics by a
score of 11 to 5 at Wrigley Field.

Los Angeles took the lead for keeps in the 3rd inning as they scored 4 runs on
4 base hits. The early run support proved sufficient for Moeller(1-1) and
Los Angeles. That was all the run support Moeller required. Los Angeles
rapped out 14 hits for the afternoon.

Joe Nuxhall(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 7 runs in 2 and 2/3
innings of work.

at Wrigley Field.

Los Angeles came up with 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning with the help
of 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Jerry Casale who elicited a roar
from the hometown fans when he smacked a single which was good for two runs.
Kansas City made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the
needed runs across.

Casale(1-2) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Jim
Archer(0-1) took the loss. He allowed 9 hits and no walks in 6 innings.

Dick Donovan pitched 8 strong innings as the Washington Senators defeated the
New York Yankees in 12 innings 3 to 2 at Griffith Stadium.

The score was tied at 2 after nine. Washington won the hard fought contest in
the 12th inning. Willie Tasby lashed a single. Two outs later Bob Johnson
stepped in and he smacked a single. Jim Coates then let loose a wild pitch
giving Washington the victory and sending the 10,832 home-town fans home
happy. Washington had 11 hits for the game and New York had 8.

The victory went to Pete Burnside(1-1) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Coates(0-2) was hit with the loss in relief. He pitched 2/3 of an inning
giving up 2 hits and no walks.

Washington now has a record of 7-8. With the loss, the New York ballclub's
record is 7-6.

Woodeshick earned his pay with a solid performance for Washington. He allowed
5 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. Washington banged out 7 on the
afternoon.

Woodeshick got help from Dave Sisler who earned his 1st save.
