Nineteen Sixty One

Well the first meeting of the year for the Tigers and Yankees occured today, Monday April 24th, 1961, and the Yanks prevailed 4 to two. Mantle and Maris hit homeruns, in fact Roger hit his league leading 4th in his second at bat, which was his seocnd of the ballgame, only to have Mantle tie him with a tremendous blow off the roof at Briggs Stadium. All three of those blasts were served up by the "Yankee Killer" Frank Lary. He also was nick named "Taters" because he gave up a lot of homeruns...today he lived up to his "Taters" nick name.
