Right fielder Willie Kirkland had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Memorial Stadium
where the Cleveland Indians beat the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 9 to
5.

Steve Hamilton(1-0) was the winning pitcher in relief. He went 2 and 2/3
innings surrendering 2 hits and 1 walk and whiffed an impressive total of 4
Baltimore batters. Baltimore was not lacking for run support as they scored
in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to forget that
pitching is also needed to win ballgames.

Frank Funk earned his 1st save. Steve Barber(1-2) absorbed the loss. He was
hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.

Battey had a big day against Kansas City. He laced a base-hit in the 2nd
inning, bombed a two-run dinger in the 4th inning and lifted one out of the
park for a two run home run (his 2nd of the season) in the 5th inning.
Minnesota had 8 hits for the night.

Sadowski(1-1) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. Norm Bass(0-1)
ended up with the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 5 runs in 4
and 2/3 innings.

bunch when he doubled which was good for two runs. Washington had a chance
in the 9th but they came up short.

Gene Conley(1-0) allowed 5 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory.
Conley got help from Mike Fornieles who was credited with his 1st save. Pete
