The New York Yankees nipped the Baltimore Orioles in 10 innings 8 to 7 at
Memorial Stadium in a hard fought contest.

The score was knotted at 7 after nine innings. Finally, New York pulled the
game out in the 10th inning. Bill Skowron laced a base-knock. Dick Hall
then uncorked a pitch that was ruled a passed ball. After an out was
recorded, Johnny Blanchard came to the plate and was walked intentionally.
Elston Howard stepped in and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. A wild
affair, this game saw the lead change 6 times.

The victory went to Ryne Duren(1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing 1 run. Jim
Coates gained credit for his 1st save. Hall(1-1) was the loser in relief.
He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the
game.
