Cal McLish(1-0) and Don Mossi(0-1) locked horns in a pitcher's duel with
McLish and the Chicago White Sox coming out on top of the Detroit Tigers 2 to
1.

Chicago set the tone of the game in the first inning when they scored 2 runs
on 1 hit. That scoring would be all that was needed. Detroit made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Juan Pizarro recorded his 1st save. Al Lopez was beaming after the game, 'Not
only were we making good contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have
'eyes'! I just love winning these tight ones! It was just our day - no doubt
about it!'

Steve Barber tossed a fine 3 hitter and Earl Robinson went yard and had 2 RBI
as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Minnesota Twins by the score of 7 to 3
at Memorial Stadium.

Baltimore took the lead for keeps in the bottom of the 6th inning plating an
isolated run. Gus Triandos smacked a single. Ron Hansen followed and he
drew a walk. Robinson then drew a walk to load the bases. Marv Breeding was
up next and he drew a walk scoring the run. Baltimore totaled 12 on the
afternoon.

Barber(1-0) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Ted
Sadowski(0-1) was the loser in relief. He surrendered 5 hits and no walks in
3 innings.

Ike Delock tossed a complete game as the Boston Red Sox outscored the Los
Angeles Angels 6 to 2.

Boston started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the
first scoring 2 runners on 3 hits. Boston totaled 8 on the afternoon.

Delock(1-0) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Jerry
Casale(0-1) was tagged with the loss. He allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in 5 and
1/3 innings.

In an exciting finish the New York Yankees pulled out a win over the Kansas
City Athletics by a score of 8 to 7 at Yankee Stadium.

New York won the game with a run in the 9th inning. After an out was
recorded, Tony Kubek doubled. Bobby Richardson stepped up to the plate and
he laced a single resulting in a mighty exciting win for New York and the
29,089 home town fans in attendance. New York kept the pressure on
throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.

Bill Stafford(1-0) got the win allowing 2 runs in 2 innings. The losing
pitcher was Ed Rakow(0-1) in relief. He surrendered 3 hits and 1 walk in 1
and 1/3 innings.

The Cleveland Indians batters feasted on the Washington Senators pitching at
Griffith Stadium. The final score was a lop-sided 11 to 3.

Mudcat Grant(1-0) pitched a fine game. He was reached for 6 hits and 5 walks
in 7 innings. Cleveland finished with 13 hits while Washington ended up with
7.

Bennie Daniels(0-1) ended up with the loss. He was knocked around by
